Syrian refugees in Canada help Fort McMurray wildfire evacuees

Syrian refugees in Calgary volunteered to help Fort McMurray evacuees as a wildfire destroyed homes and uprooted tens of thousands of people in the area. Syrian refugee Rita Khanchet posted an urgent plea on a community Facebook page, which encouraged numerous refugees from Syria to donate money, supplies, and even furniture given to them when they first arrived in Canada. “Canadians gave us everything. And now it’s time to return the favour,” said one of the refugees.
