Rachid Djaoued arrived in France from Algeria when he was 15 years old. Orphan and undocumented in France, Djaoued lived in the streets for 9 years. Walking on a bridge in Toulouse one night, Djaoued saw a man jumping into the river. Without any hesitation, Djaoued dove into the cold water, saved the man, administered emergency CPR, and waited with him until help arrived.
